Specific injuries are those that we usually associate with an accident. The injury causing event occurs at one time and the injured worker realizes that his pain or injury originated by that event or was made worse by that event.

Specific injuries are a type of injury that others can witness. Often, others can see the injury occur and see the incident which caused the injury.

A gradual injury, also known as a Continuous Trauma injury, occurs over a period of time. It may be a short period of time or a long period of time depending upon the exposure or the activity that is causing your symptoms.

Exposure to adverse working conditions or repetitive activities gradually cause physical, internal, and/or emotional pain or other symptoms. You may have initial symptoms that you hardly notice and ignore them expecting them to subside. Often, they do subside for awhile, and then gradually these symptoms begin to worsen and begin to interfere with your ability to perform your work duties and your activities of daily living. You may have already sought medical attention, received some treatment, and returned to your regular duties.
